Sidemen : Where Time Stops

If you’re seeking local villages, rice terraces, breathtaking views, and a tranquil escape from modern life, visiting Sidemen in Bali is a must.

This area of Eastern Bali remains pristine, reminiscent of Ubud before it became a hotspot for every new-age traveler in Bali.

Sidemen, pronounced “see-da-men,” refers to both the local village and a broader region in East Bali. The village itself is small, lacking major facilities.

Surrounded by valleys, rice paddies, and terraces, Sidemen offers stunning views dominated by Mount Agung in the distance.

Sidemen Village is part of the Karangasem Regency and is the smallest district within it, compared to others like Rendang, Manggis, Karangasem, Abang, Selat, Bebandem, and Kubu.

Home to approximately 40,000 people based on the 2020 population census, Sidemen comprises a series of 10 local villages.

This is rural Bali at its finest. If you’re looking for vibrant nightlife and parties, this isn’t the place.

Instead, you’ll find the serene Sidemen Village overlooking Sidemen Valley, offering some of the most unspoiled countryside in the country.

For early risers, the stunning morning views of mountains and rice terraces are unparalleled.

The welcoming local community is eager to see visitors. To gain deeper insights into local life, consider hiring a local guide who can share more about the area and its residents.

Located about 20 kilometers inland from the East Coast, Sidemen is easily accessible from most parts of the island.

The drive to Sidemen is delightful, showcasing lush rainforests, rice fields, terraces, and paddies in their full glory, especially verdant during the rainy season.

This makes visiting Sidemen during the off-season particularly appealing.
